Frank Coffee Scrub Review: Get Naked, Get Dirty, Get Rough, Get Clean

Caramel tanned, milky white or glowy olive, us girls, and guys love the feel of smooth skin. Skin is our largest organ, and if we aren’t eating right or drinking enough water, it manifests as zits, cellulite and stretchmarks. Exactly what you don’t want as you prep for Summer–also known as the season for bare skin.

Enter Frank Coffee Scrub. Touted as a humble coffee scrub targeting dry skin, cellulite, stretchmarks and other skin imperfections such as eczema and psoriasis, Frank promises to leave you with the skin you’ve always dreamed of. You’ll be able to choose between the Original at USD14.95, the Cacao version at USD16.95 or the Coconut and Grapeseed version at USD17.95. With the fervor of which convertees (or Frankfurts, as they like to call themselves) rave about it on Instagram, tongue-in-cheek marketing tactics, and affordable price point, I just had to try it! It arrived a couple of weeks before my trip to Maldives (read about it here), which gave me enough time to see if it worked.

Although it’s recommended to use Frank twice a week, I decided to use it every day leading up to my trip, on trouble areas for a quicker and more targeted treatment. After a shower, I get out a handful of Frank and gently scrub from my legs up in quick circular motions, moving towards my heart (for proper lymphatic drainage). Let it dry for at least 5-10 minutes (or as long as you can stand to be covered in coffee grit) while you check yourself out in your bathroom mirror, take a #selfie, or inhale the heady fumes of coffee diffusing throughout your bathroom. Once you’ve exhausted all bathroom related activity, you’re welcome to wash it off, and towel dry.

So the question is… Is Frank the wonderful guy he claims to be?

My body was completely devoid of dry skin, with the almond oil leaving me feeling moisturized and smooth. I was even tempted to skip my usual body butter. While I don’t suffer from obvious cellulite unless I squeeze my legs together really hard, the caffeine seemed to have reduced the appearance of my stretchmarks. Do note that I was also using Meiskin’s Stretchmarks formula (review here). I also smelt lightly of coffee–so if you’re sensitive to coffee–Frank isn’t the scrub for you. Frank also left a huge mess in the bathroom, so expect to spend some time clearing up, especially to ensure there’s no oil left on the bathroom tiles (trust me you don’t want to slip!).

Ultimately, I believe there’s no quick fix for something like cellulite, which is actually the build up of toxins in your tissues. Caffeine acts as a vasoconstrictor, tightening your blood vessels when absorbed topically. Caffeine absorption through the skin also works best when dissolved in a liquid, which is why I chose to use Frank after a shower when my skin was still damp (you can also use Frank as a dry scrub). While Frank definitely makes a temporary change in making those lumps and bumps go away, you’ll need to make that change permanent with regular exercise, a balanced diet, and enough water.

Thinking of having a romantic pre-date with Frank in the bathroom before your big date? I say yes, it’s totally worth it.
